"Sparking Change: Protecting Lives Through Awareness in Gaza"
“I may not be able to stop the war or protect others from its devastating consequences, but I hold firmly to the belief that continuous awareness efforts can make a meaningful difference. By fostering comprehensive understanding of the dangers of war and the hazards of unexploded ordnance, we can inspire hope among our people.
The ‘Palestine Early Emergency Response II’ project profoundly changed me. It pulled me away from passively existing as a displaced person in my tent and ignited a spark of hope within me. That spark grew into a drive to become an active agent of change, guiding my community toward safety and security.
From the start of the war on Gaza, I have witnessed unimaginable destruction, countless victims, and deeply painful injuries. Time and again, I found myself asking, ‘Will our people ever find relief from these horrific massacres?’ When the ‘PEER II’ project, implemented by REFORM in partnership with Norwegian People’s Aid, began, it offered a glimmer of hope.
Through comprehensive awareness-raising sessions, we educated displaced communities about the dangers of unexploded ordnance and trained them to better handle emergency situations. The results were clear: the number of injuries due to inexplosive ordnance in the targeted areas dropped significantly. Our efforts centered on promoting preparedness, safety, and the mitigation of risks, ensuring greater protection and security for displaced citizens.
The journey wasn’t without challenges. Many displaced individuals lacked basic awareness of the dangers around them, and the dire conditions in Gaza made it even harder to reach everyone. Yet, we worked tirelessly, driven by the hope of achieving widespread awareness among the local community.
Today, I see the difference we’ve made—not just in the reduced injuries and lives saved, but in the renewed sense of empowerment within our people. The ‘PEER II’ project has shown us that even amid the harshest conditions, hope can thrive, and change is possible.”
